Faenza Cresce lets two days pass before intervening on the matter which saw it vote with the centre-right in the city council, giving rise to the unprecedented draw which took place at Palazzo Manfredi on the occasion of the vote on the block on the urbanization of the Ghilana area – then approved by the council of the Union of Romagna Faentina. “Our list is and continues to be constructively part of the majority and the council of this city – specifies the group leader Andrea Luccaroni –, in which he renews his trust in all its members, while maintaining his ideas on development towards a more attractive future for students, families and companies”.

Faenza Cresce wishes to explain his point of view: “The vote was the last step in a procedural process that lasted almost four years, in which the municipal council had previously always voted in favour. It is therefore clear that the attitude has changed, as stated by the councilor Ortolani himself and by the mayor Della Godenza in the council of the Union, following a precautionary principle. It is for this change of direction of the administration that our list has tried to understand on the basis of what scientific evidence the Ghilana lot would be. been more at risk than the adjacent already urbanized ones; however we have not received a response: to date there is only a draft of a special plan, which will be ready in June, in which the risk areas are not highlighted”.

In short, Faenza Cresce denies that a shift towards the centre-right is in sight. However, the civic reality promises battle on some of the issues at the center of the reconstruction as the Region and the commissioner structure have designed it. “We believe that the hydraulic protection of a city cannot be achieved by preventing construction in an already built-up area, and that therefore simple denial is an insufficient and incorrect response because it does not make the city safe, but only says ‘no’. We believe that it is necessary to discuss major works for the Lamone and Marzeno valley, with safety interventions upstream (expansion tanks, embankments, maintenance of drainage channels and hilly and mountainous terrain), because only through these works will will be able to give a real response to the city, even in the areas already inhabited and tragically affected by the floods of last May”.

Then there is the issue of homes and businesses in areas at risk: “We cannot help but be concerned about the relocation of over 3,400 homes and businesses due to landslides, already announced in the Plan, to which others will have to be added due to the proximity to the rivers – continues Faenza Cresce –. We therefore hope that this relocation will not concern homes and businesses within Faenza, a city that will have to be secured with strategic works upstream and not through the movement of ‘pieces of the city’, following principles of vague precautions, which change opportunities into ‘no’ and block the development of a city already on its knees that wants nothing more than to get back up again”.
