Frost. Their choice fell on “Alleanza per Gela” and on the candidate for mayor Salvatore Scerra. Over the months, the exponents of “Rinnova” followed the evolution of the moderates’ table, in which they also saw themselves in the perspective of a broader political project. From that context, however, non-univocal positions emerged and “Rinnova” said yes to the alliance outside the bloc of the official centre-right. “We have faith in Scerra and he has faith in us – says Giampaolo Alario – we are certain that this project, political and administrative, will certainly develop beyond the deadline of the administrative elections”. For Alario, among the founders of “Rinnova”, the trend always remains that of the moderates and of the table that had been formed. “We certainly would have expected the moderates to be able to nominate a candidate for mayor – he adds – but this was not the case. Italia Viva has made other choices and for me all the candidates for mayor deserve respect. In this project there will be a list, “Moderati-Rinnova”, which brings together expressions from the moderates’ table. We decided this with the utmost collaboration and let’s not forget that the alliance for Scerra also includes the liberals, who are in turn present at the moderate table. I can say, without fear of contradiction, that we, these groups, are the real moderates in the city. We are proving it.” At a certain stage of the evaluations, it was hypothesized, even before “Rinnova” converged in “Alleanza per Gela”, that Alario himself could aspire to a candidacy as mayor. The evolution of events did not lead to developments of this type. Alario himself, as a reference for “Rinnova”, put his personal signature, not only symbolic, to the political pact in support of Scerra, as did the representatives of the other groups. In the “Moderati-Rinnova” list there are, among others, three city councilors in office, Alessandra Ascia (in turn among the founders of “Rinnova”), Giuseppe Guastella (autonomist who approached the group) and Salvatore Incardona ( currently still in the dual role of councilor and councilor), now close to “We Moderates”. “We think we have a competitive list, capable of making an important contribution to the candidate for mayor,” he underlines.
