Boys volleyball: Syracuse finishes 2nd, Clearfield 3rd at Ogden’s Tiger Trials | News, Sports, Jobs

OGDEN — Syracuse finished 4-1, good for second place, and Logan High won the Tiger Trials boys volleyball tournament hosted Friday and Saturday at Ogden High School.

Syracuse finished Friday’s pool play with a late-night, 25-15, 25-12 sweep of Clearfield to win its pool at 3-0.

The Titans (16-7) then topped Murray 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 on Saturday morning to advance to the tournament title match. Chase Barrett had 13 kills and Davis Caldwell 12. Branson Hamblin had 14 digs and Caleb Roskelley 35 assists.

Syracuse met Logan (also 4-0 to that point on the weekend) in the tournament title game Saturday afternoon and the Grizzlies vanquished the Titans 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22. Caldwell totaled 12 kills and 13 digs. Freshman Talon Morris dished 23 assists. Hamblin had 24 digs.

Clearfield went 2-1 in Friday pool play and fell to Logan in straight sets to open bracket play Saturday But the Falcons topped Murray 27-25, 24-26, 28-26, 25-18 to claim third place for the tournament.

Ogden beat Murray in pool play, then defeated Utah Military Academy-Hill Field (Riverdale) and Woods Cross each in straight sets Saturday to claim seventh place.

Stats for other matches were not reported.

The final team finish order is as follows: Logan, Syracuse, Clearfield, Murray, Ogden, Woods Cross, Granger, Utah Military.
