Zebras overwhelmed, the Glasgow Warriors triumph 9-40 in Parma

There is no match in the penultimate season of URC at the “Lanfranchi”: the Glasgow Warriors beat Zebre Parma 40 to 9. Too much difference between the two teams, with the Scots having also been able to overwhelm Benetton in Treviso.

The first half sees the Zebre in control of possession and territory in the first 30′. The Glasgow Warriors are undisciplined and commit four fouls in the first quarter of an hour of play.

The yellow-blues created several attacking opportunities but only scored points from the penalty spot with Thomas Dominguez in the 7th and 26th minutes. A lot of play for the Italians who frequently knocked on the Scots’ door, without however finding their way to the goal, also missing a free kick from distance with Jacopo Trulla in the 13th minute.

The guests were much more clinical and made good use of the opportunities created in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Steyn and his teammates score a try from touchout with hooker Hiddleston in the 33rd and 40th minutes after going up the field at red time, before returning to the locker room at 6-14.

In the second half the difficulties and free kicks increased against the Zebre who paid dearly for some defensive lapses. Glasgow took advantage of this and scored a try in the 51st and 67th minutes with captain Kyle Steyn, in the 75th minute with number 9 Dobie and in the 79th minute with newly introduced George Horne.

The Zebre, who also approached the second half well and shortened the distance in the 44th minute from the pitch with Thomas Dominguez bringing them back within break distance, had an attacking outburst in the 56th minute after an excellent individual action by Jacopo Trulla who kicked for himself and forces a hold-down in the offensive 5 metres. Once again, the efforts of the forwards do not pay off and the Scots steal possession in the ruck.

The match ends at 9-40 after three goals scored easily by the guests in the last 13′, with the game now over.

The next two weekends will be free from competitive commitments. The Zebre will meet at the Cittadella del Rugby in Parma on Monday 29 April ahead of the 16th round of the BKT United Rugby Championship scheduled for Friday 10 May at the Hive Stadium in Edinburgh.
