New expression of interest starting in Quartu with the aim of giving stability to the sharing mobility program through electric micromobility, started a few years ago on an experimental basis. This will lead to the full activation of the electric scooter rental service, still focusing on the “one way” mode, i.e. with the possibility of releasing the device in a place other than where it was picked up.
Thanks to the experimental phase, which has now come to an end, and was extended only while awaiting the assignment of the new tender, it was possible to draw up a balance sheet and therefore also identify how to improve the service, so that sustainability is guaranteed and those who use it are fully satisfied .
For the parking of scooters, a system of shelter points has been studied which will include the areas already defined by the Municipal Administration and others subsequently identified in agreement with the economic operators, which will be authorized under free competition for a period of forty-eight months, with the possibility of renewal upon expiry for a further 12 months.
“The service launched on an experimental basis a few years ago allowed us to evaluate both the positive aspects and the existing critical issues – explains the Municipal Councilor for Mobility and Transport Elisabetta Atzori -. The new tender will assign the service for the next 4 years, with a possible extension of a further year: thus providing the necessary continuity and at the same time making it more attractive in terms of participation compared to the previous one of 24 months”.
“In the new tender the contractor will have the obligation to deploy the vehicles more punctually – adds the representative of the Milia Council -; those not in use cannot in fact be abandoned in the area, in compliance with other types of users, starting with pedestrians. Furthermore, scooters must be located in specific stalls, which will not be limited to spaces dedicated to bicycles and motorbikes: other locations may be identified, previously agreed with the municipal administration.. The hope is that the service can be awarded to two companies, so that healthy competition is guaranteed”, concludes the member of the municipal executive.
The Administration has therefore launched a new exploratory action in order to develop the sharing service offer, identifying two private operators interested in carrying out the rental activity of electric scooters under free competition. As a result of the procedure, a ranking will be drawn up of all the subjects who have expressed interest in carrying out the activity in the territory of the Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena.
