In the next few hours the majority will meet to choose the candidate
“Honestly, for me as Mayor, these have been days of great reflection together with my entire group – wrote the mayor Elicio Romandini in a note – above all for the support and esteem that many fellow citizens recognize in us and which today lead me to make a choice torn between the desire to still give so much to my community and the commitment to keep faithful to the word given during the 2019 electoral campaign, in which I said that, with my mandate, I would only be a Ferryman for Sant’Egidio, who would be committed to restoring citizens’ trust in an administration that is always present, responsible towards the territory, close to the problems of less fortunate people and above all open to listening to everyone.
Coherence and the word given to the voters, for anyone who undertakes a political/administrative path, I believe must always direct choices in favor of the common good and prevail over personal ambitions of any kind, as I believe that only in this way can the trust of the people be recovered citizens towards the institutions.
These values lead me today to renounce my candidacy as Mayor for the next term for which I will support, as promised, the candidate for Mayor who will be chosen by the group of the current majority of six councilors to whom, on this occasion, I address my personal thanks for the work carried out and for the seriousness with which they faced, together with me, the mandate challenges faced in these five years of administrative activity.
In the next few hours, as already agreed with the current majority group, the six councilors will meet to choose the candidate for Mayor for the next local elections.
My commitment remains firm to support his candidacy together with his entire group, from the presentation of the list, to the electoral campaign up to the final victory on 9 June 2024″.
The mayor also analyzes the five years of his mandate:
“We have now reached the end of the five-year period in which we were protagonists of an administrative adventure with excellent results, to say the least, which at the time none of us thought we would achieve and we have kept almost all of the electoral promises of the time. era, a civic team was formed with the commitment to work for our territory and for all our fellow citizens. We achieved the numerous measures and great results achieved despite the almost 3 years of the PANDEMIC (2020-2021-2022). , a period in which our activities and commitment were mainly aimed at containing the disease through SCREENING and VACCINATIONS organized at our EXHIBITION CENTER and also at the Val Vibrata ASL centre.
Excellent results, even considering having to manage an area excluded from the list of municipalities included within the CRATER (earthquake 08/24/2016 and January 2017), with all school buildings having a seismic vulnerability coefficient below those found in other municipalities included within the CRATER. All this due to the NEGLIGENCE of Administrators of the time, who today present themselves to the citizens of our Municipality as new administrators for the next five years.
This negligence of theirs has excluded the territory of Sant’Egidio from the Crater, resulting in the impossibility of accessing the funding necessary for us administrators to provide for the safety or reconstruction of our schools and for our fellow citizens and entrepreneurs to take advantage of those benefits useful to the structural adaptation of buildings and more, a problem that we will have to deal with in the years to come.
Having worked constantly throughout the five-year period, we only REALIZED the excellent administrative action carried out when compiling the END OF MANDATE REPORT, with hundreds of measures, the summary of which we were careful to report in a POSTER posted on the noticeboards of the our Municipality, inviting citizens to reflect on the works completed and in progress. Sant’Egidio is still a construction site in every street and in every place of our territory. After 15 YEARS we have reviewed the asphalts and the safety of our roads with dozens of other works such as FIBER – LIGHTING – Road dedusting – hygiene works – energy efficiency of buildings – TOWN HALL renovation – cemetery works, swimming pool, etc. etc. .
In light of the above, having now arrived at the gates of the elections to present ourselves again to the Citizens of Sant’Egidio, convinced that we have WORKED in everyone’s interest, capable of carrying forward that PROJECT which has been successful for our Municipality, WE REPROPOSE ourselves to win the next electoral match in the administrative elections of 8 and 9 June 2024. The formula is the same as in 2019. A formula and a proposal that was appreciated by our community in 2019, with an approval rating never seen in the history of administrative elections from the post-war period to today”.
