«I dedicate the victory to my grandparents, they taught me to dance»

ODERZO (TREVISO) – He graduated regional champion for Veneto at the interregional dance championships which took place in Cividale del Friuli. A great victory that Alessio Pelliciardi, 25 years old, dedicated to her grandparents Guido Pelliciardi and Lucia Comin, massacred by a gang of thugs during one robbery ended in tragedy in Gorgo al Monticano. It was the night between 20 and 21 August 2007. «It is a very important victory, conquered together with my girlfriend Sofia Rava. It is the first significant title for her, she only started dancing seven months ago. We are really happy and we dedicate the two titles won to my grandparents Guido and Lucia” says Alessio. Grandparents they would be very proud of this nephew who, like his sister Laura, is building a beautiful life path for himself. Laura decided to leave competitions again several months ago without any regrets, dancing has become a pastime for her. «It’s just a question of choices – says brother Alessio – but I decided to continue. I was looking for a new partnerafter Laura had opted not to continue.”

THE WORK

Easier said than done, considering that the high-level competitions in which the young man participates presuppose profound harmony among the dancers. The young man confronted his teachers and the choice was to try dancing as a couple with his girlfriend Sofia. At first Sofia did it out of love, then she became more and more passionate about it. «When Sofia and I talked about trying to train as a couple she said yes – confirms Alessio -. At the beginning, her decision was motivated by the affection that binds us. As time went by, the training sessions and what we shared together, she liked it more and more. She likes dancing very much». In short, if Cupid put a pinch of himself into it, the rest was done by the training, the many hours spent together trying, sharing a path and a passion. Which was born in Alessio many years ago, he was little more than a child when his paternal grandparentstogether with her sister Laura and their parents Daniele and Cristina, they went to have fun at village festivals. Where there was often a ballroom dance floor and, while parents and grandparents danced, the children stayed on the edge of the floor playing and dancing in their own way. A world, that of dance, which has always been familiar to Alessioso much so that he chose to compete in sports dance competitions.

THE CHALLENGE

Sofia and Alessio were competing in the Interregional Dance Championship for Northern Italy. The two engaged couples won the title of regional champions for Veneto and interregional champions for the Northern sector (Italy) in the category “Amateurs class A2” discipline standard dances (slow waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, slow fox, quickstep). «My grandparents liked these dances, I remember them being happy while they were on the dance floor – says Alessio -. After all, dancing is like that, it transmits joy and happiness. It allows you to relieve stress and build friendships.” He says it with full knowledge of the facts: alongside his work as a bartender at the New Capovolto bar in via Spinè in Oderzo, he collaborates with the “Ballando sull’onda” school directed by Simone Daniele and Ilaria Pedron. «I collaborate with the Meduna di Livenza office – specifies the young Pelliciardi -. The most beautiful aspect, beyond teaching, is seeing that groups of friends are created to go dancing at this or that party.” A great satisfaction indeed: when you see the students dancing happily it means that the objective has been achieved.
