An episode as mysterious as it is disturbing. Last night in Latina, in the central area via Don Morosini, someone fired a gunshot into the air. According to initial reconstructions, it was a hooded man who pulled the trigger, in the company of a second subject, also with a distorted face. First they would have shouted something at a group of foreigners, then the shot and the sudden escape in a car parked not far away. Police officers then intervened on site and found a cartridge case.
“An episode that cannot go unnoticed or underestimated. I have already spoken about it with the prefect Maurizio Falco and we have agreed on the opportunity to convene a meeting of the Security Order Committee as soon as possible”. The mayor of Latina Matilde Celentano says this, adding: “A few months ago we raised in the Prefecture the issue of the overexposure of the area of via Don Morosini, which has become a place of residence for too large a number of immigrants hosted in initial reception centres, a situation which inevitably generates nocturnal gatherings that are often the source of arguments that lead to fights, and now also to real threats with the use of weapons. An explosive situation that we can no longer tolerate. Furthermore, the area is frequented by homeless people who do not want to be hosted in public dormitories and stay day and night on benches, preventing the use of the green spaces of the neighborhood. I trust in the maximum collaboration, also in terms of ideas, on the part of the leaders of the police forces, who, with the wise direction of the prefect, will be able to help us in the difficult but unavoidable task of stemming the drift that is emerging”.
