Istituto Caselli Siena, students meet the writer Beatrice Salvioni and the novel “La Malnata”

It is the novel “La Malnata” by Beatrice Salvioni, already winner of the Calvino Prize in the short story category in 2021, that is being analyzed by the students of the fifth classes of the G. Caselli Institute in Siena on the occasion of the usual cultural event “CasellIncontra”. A special meeting on a historical novel that has enchanted children and critics from all over the world, which narrates the friendship between two teenagers who is born and strengthens in a fascist Italy and only thanks to the strength of this indissoluble bond do the two girls succeed to rebel against the injustice of the abuse of power.

“Since I’m constantly told that I’m such a young writer, I like to count myself among the girls’ boys too – The writer Beatrice Salvioni talks about her experience -, but going to schools is my favorite experience because I meet boys and girls. Young people ask the best questions and also push you to make the best reflections on yourself too. So it is my favorite trip when I leave around “La Malnata”. And the thing I particularly like is being able to share with them the importance of disobedience and the importance of having the courage to say no, to disobey, to have your say, to raise your voice to fight for the things for which it’s worth believing. So I think this is the increasingly important thing.”

A study day that is also part of “Reading & Meeting”, a reading path that the Institute’s Italian literature teachers prepare for parallel classes based on current themes, contexts and references. In which students always participate in a very active and passionate way.

“I believe that the “CasellIncontra” project, dedicated to reading, is very important – comments student Chiara Cavicchioli, class 5A Web Community student – and I believe above all that it helps the writer to understand the emotions that the book aroused in the students. But above all it is also important for students to express their thoughts on a book that a writer has written, and I believe above all that it is also important to understand if a person wants to undertake a writing journey”.
