An important workshop entitled “Intercultural Mediation: Beyond Words” will be held on Monday 29 April, from 5pm to 7pm, at the E. De Amicis school in via Col di Lana. This event – explain the organizers – was born from a practical need that emerged in recent months among cultural mediators active in the Nicolosi district, in particular at the De Amicis school. Here they found themselves “neighbors” from different age groups, religions, cultures, nationalities and social conditions.
The closeness between these different communities was made possible thanks to the networking activity and continuous interventions promoted by the “Social Mediation” project, such as Italian L2 courses, after-school courses and other courses attended mainly by Italian citizens organized by local associations.
Cristiana Russo, coordinator of the Social Mediation project, explains: «Simple closeness is not enough to create relationships. The meeting between people of different cultures requires accompaniment and facilitation to constructively manage conflicts and prevent conflicts
discriminations. The role of mediators is therefore fundamental not only to facilitate the meeting but also to promote a cultural change within the services in which they are employed, making them more inclusive and attentive to individual needs”.
The event will see the participation of representatives of the Zai Saman association, the Latina Nord Committee and the Penny Wirton school of Latina.
The “Latina Social Mediation – Integrated Urban Recovery” project is promoted by the Municipality of Latina – Department of Public Works, financed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers as part of the suburbs tender and managed by the social cooperative Il Quadrifoglio.
The invitation is extended to all citizens interested in participating and contributing to this important discussion.
