A sober ceremony, not without moments of deep emotion, in memory of a state servant taken from life at just 37 years old. It was the morning of April 27, 2006 when in Nassiriya, Iraq, a military vehicle was involved in the explosion of a vile bomb placed in the center of the road. 5 people on board, all deceased, including Chief Marshal of the Bisceglie Carabinieri Carlo De Trizio. 18 years after that terrorist attack, his community remembered his illustrious example, amplified by a historical period in which peace, democracy and freedom are placed at risk on a daily basis in multiple territories tormented by conflicts.
Concepts highlighted in the homily by Don Francesco Colangelo during the liturgical celebration in the Chapel of the Municipal Cemetery and further explained by General Ubaldo Del Monaco, commander of the Puglia Carabinieri Legion, in his speech at the end of the same, in the presence of De Trizio’s family.
After the religious function, the numerous political, civil and military authorities present gave life to a procession which culminated in the deposition of a laurel wreath and a floral composition at the Monumental Tomb, together with military honors for Carlo De Trizio, awarded the Cross of Honor to victims of acts of terrorism or hostile acts in military and civil operations abroad.
