Cosenza. “Continuity between Occhiuto and Caruso is harmful to the city”, Pd changes course

“The Senator Occhiuto who until now had never failed to make known his appreciation towards the current one municipal council for continuity with the one led by him now attacks his successor accusing him of lack of vision and for the degradation of the city”

So in a note to him PD members of the Federation of Cosenza Sergio De Simone, Alessandro Grandinetti, Saverio Carlo Greco and Giacomo Mancini.

And saythey continue the bearers of the statement – that in these three years the administration in office, unlike what it had promised during the electoral campaign, had been more than tender towards the previous experience: the accounting books of the financial ruin that caused the collapse were never brought to light ordinary and accounting judiciary. The president of the auditors was reconfirmed in his fundamental role by this same administration. For more than a year the CEO of Amaco was kept in his post and would have remained there if the Public Prosecutor of the Cosenza Prosecutor’s Office had not intervened to wake up the current mayor and his administration from their soporific sleep, carrying out the comatose and bankrupt state of the company”.

The four Dems they then claim not to believe, however, “that Occhiuto’s stance today could represent the break in that political continuity that many centre-left voters are suffering and criticising. Certain they say – it is clear that the Caruso administration in three years has demonstrated a lack of vision regarding the development of the city. However, it makes me smile that the criticism is formulated by Senator Occhiuto.”

“Indeed – they add further De Simone, Grandinetti, Greco and Mancini – The limits of vision demonstrated by the two Occhiuto administrations are well imprinted in the memory of the people of Cosenza. The people of Cosenza remember well the municipalist closure of the city after decades of effective and productive collaboration for the creation of the urban area, one of the most important in the South, between the three municipalities of Cosenza, Rende and Castrolibero. The PSC rejected by the Region in which the housing volumes were moved from the hamlets to the center of a city now saturated with civilian homes and in sharp demographic decline. The systematic destruction of Viale Giacomo Mancini with its closure which caused the explosion of city traffic and the impossibility of reaching the city center”.

The four members to the match they then recall what they define as the “guilty responsibility” which would concern delays in construction of the hospital, infrastructure necessary for the citizens not only of Cosenza, but of the entire province.

“And speaking of the Planetarium – they blurt out again – let’s avoid reaching the ridiculous. And for more than ten years the Planetarium, another work inherited from the Mancini family, has been guiltily abandoned to the deterioration of time. And certainly the glittering inaugurations were not enough and are enough to make available to the citizens of Cosenza and not only to them, a structure that many, not only in Calabria, envy us. Just as it is evident that for three years the Caruso administration has not developed an idea to manage the planetarium, nor the many cultural facilities nor the sports facilities present in the city and publicly owned”.

“We are afraid, though – they continue De Simone, Grandinetti, Greco and Mancini that Senator Occhiuto’s words do not mark the start of a healthy democratic dialectic between forces that possess a different vision. Because the continuity that exists between the center-right and this center-left that governs the city is completely evident. However, it would be desirable for the good of Cosenza that the discussion is not centered on sterile controversies, but on the search for solutions that the different institutional levels, although of different political affiliation, should be able to find in the interest of the community”.

And this is why the four have been saying for the longest time that they are urging the Democratic Party to do so take back the initiative and comparison with militants, members and voters, but above all with the city “to reflect together on the future of Cosenza and its urban area starting from the great question of the single city. On this ground we must challenge a center-right responsible for the financial collapse that is causing so much damage to the pockets of those people from Cosenza who pay taxes and who are increasingly being squeezed like lemons”.

Our constant action to stimulate and criticize the Caruso administration, due to the absence of an overall vision of the capital city of the largest and most productive province of Calabria and of the delays inherited and accumulated from the previous centre-right councils, was born – concludes the note signed by the members of the Cosenza Federation Sergio De Simone, Alessandro Grandinetti, Saverio Carlo Greco and Giacomo Mancini – from the concern that administrative inertia and time could politically and administratively relegitimize those who have great responsibility for the current situation of degradation of the city”.
