Southern Sicily from Agrigento to Syracuse in the European transport network for railways and ports – Licatanet

The territory of southern Sicily from Agrigento to Syracuse in the European transport network for railways and ports.

Thanks to signed amendments LateAgrigento-Licata-Gela-Pozzallo-Siracusa are the ports that will receive funding, as well as Porto Empedocle included in the global network and the urban nodes of Catania, Messina, Syracuse.

The MEP of the League/ID Group and member of the Transport and Tourism Commission Annalisa Tardino This is how he comments on the European Chamber vote that gave the green light to the reform of the trans-European transport network:

Sicily is central to European reformthanks to my amendments which included the ring of Southern Sicilyin particular the inclusion of the connection between Caltanissetta and the ports of Caltanissetta in the global network Agrigento-Licata-Gela-Pozzallo-Syracuse and the inclusion of the seaport of Empedocle”.
“Another important success according to Tardino was the inclusion of new urban nodes, including Catania, Messina, Syracuse, for which the obligation to adopt a plan for sustainable urban mobility is expected. With these amendments, Sicily finds its centrality in a proposal that is ambitious and which aims to make Europe increasingly connected to be able to compete globally in future commercial challenges”.
Tardino concludes by stating that “we worked jointly with the Minister Matteo Salvini on this reform, we in Parliament and he in the Council, managing to integrate a part of Sicily that had been guiltily forgotten into the development of infrastructural networks. The Mediterranean area it is already crucial for trade routes today, therefore it must be integrated and developed with decisive investments in infrastructure to help its economic growth”.
