“From Santa Teresa to the mouth of the Irno, from Torrione to Mercatello, from Torre Angellara to the border with Pontecagnano: all the city beaches have for years been victims of inattention and neglect on the part of the municipal administration. Responsibility cannot only be attributed to the rude people on duty. On the one hand it is true that a minority of users of city beaches show no respect for places with inestimable landscape and environmental value.
On the other hand, it must be added that the Municipality is completely disinterested. Where the administration is absent, fortunately, it is the citizens who take action. In this regard, applause should be given to the Plastic Free association and to the many other voluntary organizations which in recent weeks, with their interventions on the city’s coastal strip, have removed large quantities of waste of all sorts, much of it transported by the sea during the winter season“, argues the minority councilor.
Pessolano takes things further: “Since the beginning of last autumn there has been no radical cleaning operation of the Salerno coastline: the approach to the theme of Palazzo di Città, in addition to being far too disinterested, is also anachronistic.
Given climate changes, it is possible to use the beaches for a much longer period of the year than what happened in the past“.
“The Municipality, when we have now reached the gates of the summer season, has the duty to concretely deal with the cleaning of our beaches – concludes Pessolano – in the event that there are no human resources to carry out interventions of this type, a well-structured collaboration with associations is also welcome, as long as our beach once again consistently receives the care and respect it deserves“.
