Reggio Calabria airport is at the center of a series of reflections and projects aimed at guaranteeing its complete functionality and facilitating its development. According to what was expressed by Franchini, manager of the airport, it is essential to expand the car parks to meet the needs of travellers. The option of creating a multi-storey car park is being considered to optimize the available space.

Furthermore, to improve accessibility to the airport, President Sacal highlighted the importance of removing obstacles that limit the growth of the airport. One of the desired interventions is the construction of the Maldariti interchange, which would allow direct access to the airport. At the same time, work is being done on intermodality, with agreements for sea connections with Liberty Lines and Caronte for the transport of shuttles from the ports to the airport. The Atam line is already active, with a shuttle connecting the airport to Tito Minniti and the train station.

However, there are still challenges to face, such as the issue of illegal constructions around the airport, which have limited the operational space. Franchini expressed frustration at the inertia in solving this problem, which has prevented the extension of runways and thus the docking of more airlines.

Despite the challenges, Franchini underlines the strategic importance of the airport for the city of Reggio Calabria and hopes for a collective commitment to carry out the necessary interventions and guarantee a timely response to requests for adaptation. The successful development of the airport will have a positive impact on the entire city, benefiting both travelers and the entire local community.
