Salerno

“I thank the mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo Napoli for having welcomed, shared and relaunched – with the strength of the First Citizen – the position on the need to adopt measures that can no longer be postponed in the management of dogs by owners”. This was stated in a note by the municipal councilor of Salerno, Rino Avella, who on Wednesday sent a letter to the mayor, expressing his position on the issue. “From safety to urban hygiene, passing through the identification of new and more suitable dedicated spaces, the letter intended to be a constructive stimulus in the government action of the city.

The mayor – explains Avella. he collected it and I am pleased to present it here in its entirety:.

Dear Mayor,
given that
– estimates place around 20 thousand microchipped dogs in the municipal area;
– these pets play a role of absolute value for the individuals and families who welcome them and take care of them, returning the affection received.

Whereas
– unfortunately it is a widespread habit for owners not to comply with municipal ordinances and regulations in force in the part in which they provide for the obligation to collect and correctly dispose of dog excrement in the appropriate containers distributed throughout the area by Salerno Pulita;
– such uncollected excrements, especially in particular climatic conditions where temperatures in the city reach 40 degrees, represent a potential danger to public health.

Remembered that
– in terms of deterring the hateful phenomenon, I have repeatedly requested the installation of camera traps in the parts of the city most frequented by dogs and their owners;
– several times I have requested greater control, especially in public parks very frequented by children, also for the non-secondary respect of the obligation to use a leash and muzzle.
– I have repeatedly asked the municipal administration to identify new and larger dedicated walking areas, as the current ones are absolutely insufficient.

Verified that
the Municipality of Nocera Inferiore has adopted a union ordinance which obliges dog owners to equip themselves not only with collection bags but also with bottles of water (preferably with disinfectant) for cleaning public areas affected by the needs of their dogs .

So described one wonders
to adopt an ordinance of equal effectiveness and all the measures deemed necessary in order to prevent, limit and punish the owners for any transgressions of these provisions.
