BOLZANO. On the occasion of the celebrations that took place in Bolzano and Merano on April 25th, numerous public order services were organized by order from the police commissioner of the Province of Bolzano Paolo Sartori, with the participation of departments of the State Police , of the Carabinieri, the Financial Police and the Local Police, in order to guarantee the peaceful conduct of the demonstrations.
In relation to the official institutional celebration of “Liberation Day”, which took place on Thursday morning in the presence of the civil, military and religious authorities, including a procession and two events, the joint forces services began the previous days, with strengthened vigilance at all places where the commemorations were held. The same intensification of prevention and maintenance of public order operations was also arranged and carried out in Merano, on the occasion of similar demonstrations.
Further public order services were arranged on the occasion of demonstrations – regularly announced and authorized by the police commissioner – organized by pacifist groups and other antagonistic groups, which also took place in the Bolzano capital.
The Police Headquarters informs that no critical issues of any kind were foundso much so that the participants were able to peacefully take part in tranquility and safety.
Always on the occasion of the April 25th holiday and during yesterday the commissioner also ordered a series of extraordinary checks of the territory and prevention of petty crime and urban decay which affected the central and peripheral areas of the capital, with the use of specialized patrols from the Crime Prevention Department of the State Police supported by agents from the Bolzano Police Headquarters and the Municipal Police.
In fact, since the early hours of the morning, several checkpoints have been set up along the main entrance arteries into the city; subsequently, the police forces employed in the services combed through the city parks and the usual places of meeting and aggregation.
In this context, within the Capuchin parka has been identified 48 year old Tunisian citizen with numerous criminal and police records against him; this man, found in possession of a switchblade knife and already affected by a previous order to stay away from the city center areas, for these reasons it was reported on the looseand the police commissioner issued a decree of expulsion from the national territory against him.
Therefore, during the checks carried out inside the “Firmian” park a citizen has been identified 33 year old foreigner found in possession of one pack of hashish, allegedly held for personal use. A careful check of the area then made it possible to find and seize, hidden among the bushes, 3 doses of “crack” ready for sale. A complaint was also filed against him to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the police commissioner issued an expulsion order.
In the area Don Boscoduring a police check to which three subjects were subjected who were wandering around in a suspicious manner – who later turned out to all be convicted criminals – one of these, a 28 year old Tunisian citizenturned out to be wanted following the issuing of a prison order against him for the expiation of the sentence of 2 years, 8 months and 13 days of imprisonment for the crimes of robbery and injuries, as well as subjected to other criminal proceedings for persecutory acts and personal injuries. At the end of the judicial police activities, the subject was therefore arrested and taken to the local prison.
The commissioner’s measures.
Overall, during the police operations, the following activities were carried out:
– 6 controlled public establishments
– All the main TRAINS departing and arriving at the Bolzano station have been inspected by POLFER
– 4 roadside checkpoints carried out
– 75 Vehicles checked
– 182 people identified, of which 89 with various precedents.
At the end of the operational activities – in which the Anti-Crime Division and the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters also collaborated, for the parts of their respective competence – the Police Commissioner adopted the following measures:
3 Fogli di Via Obligatori (from the Municipality of Bolzano) against people with criminal and/or police records, who found themselves without any appreciable reason and in unjustified circumstances in the municipal territory;
2 Oral Warnings (Prevention Measure provided for by the Code of Anti-Mafia Laws) towards as many Italian and foreign citizens who denote a marked social danger due to criminal and/or police records for crimes of various kinds, including crimes against the person , in matters relating to drugs, or against property;
3 Expulsion Decrees / Removal Orders from the National Territory against as many non-EU citizens who, during the checks, were found to be irregular in Italy and with criminal and/or police prejudices against them.
The police commissioner Paolo Sartori comments: “On the occasion of the celebrations that took place on a day of such high symbolic value, of fundamental importance for the democratic life and history of our country, once again the police forces guaranteed the regular and peaceful carrying out of all demonstrations and, at the same time, implemented specific territorial control activities aimed at preventing and repressing all those expressions of illegality that jeopardize civil coexistence”.
