VIAREGGIO. The few moments of the videos circulated are enough to understand that this is not the usual level of aggression that is recorded at night throughout Italy. Black sweatshirts and jeans, hoods pulled down to hide the face and a hand armed with a belt to vibrate in the air and hit anything and, above all, anyone within striking distance. To protect their escape, they also use firecrackers, so they can blend into the night and the smoke. They struck in Darsena at the end of April 2024 and also in Forte dei Marmi. Where a video immortalizes a group of very young people who – passing among their peers – cover their heads with hoods due to the presence of cameras which the kids point to aloud, inviting the others to make themselves unrecognizable. But the group of young people – all between 18 and 25 years old – who move with the intention of sowing panic in the premises and causing damage, shows up punctually in the places of the Versilia nightlife.
The raids
From the beginning of April 2024 they would strike more than once. Among the victims was also a security officer at the Darsena premises who was injured in the clash with the group of hooded youths. Two boys who arrived in Versilia from Barga for an evening of fun needed treatment in the emergency room of the Versilia hospital after being attacked by the violent group. The same group that on Sunday 21 April allegedly belted a boy and a girl who were in a club in Forte dei Marmi.
The last blitz
Maki Maki, in Darsena, the only nightclub in Viareggio, was also targeted. The group tried to enter wearing sweatshirt hoods and was repelled by security personnel who stopped the numerous violent men. The reaction, however, was not long in coming: bottles thrown at those in charge of security, belts thrown at everything that came to hand, large firecrackers exploded outside. Both the Carabinieri and the State Police arrived on site: «The area belonged to the Carabinieri (each city is divided into areas under the jurisdiction of the different police forces, day by day, ed)», explain from the Lucca Police Headquarters, «and the State Police intervened to help. But when we arrived there was no one left.” According to the Viareggio Carabinieri Company, “the state police are proceeding with the latest episode”. The Army’s assessment is that, at least up to now, the episodes that have taken place in recent weeks are “a little disconnected from each other”. And it will be up to the investigations to identify the protagonists of actions planned to sow panic in the nightlife. Where the security staff of the premises sees a bit of everything: even a parent protesting against the entry ban imposed on their child, known as particularly “lively” and often completely drunk. After more than one protest, the parent provided the child with the document of an adult relative, so as to remove the minor age obstacle. Blocked again by security who withheld the falsely produced document, the parent did not hesitate to call the police believing that his son had suffered a real abuse of power by the surveillance staff.
