Messina, the opposition of dance teachers to short diplomas

“For more than thirty years, graduated and qualified teachers for dance teaching have been working to affirm the importance and value of the qualification obtained at the Accademia Nazionale Danza in Rome and, for a few years, at the Scuola del Teatro alla Scala of Milan, but also to promote the establishment of an integrated and functional system for the training of dance teachers. For years we have been fighting to support and promote our skills acquired thanks to the Academy degree which bring great depth to the teaching of dance and to obtain regulation of the training courses enabling the teaching of the same, and thus combat a vision that is only commercial and with few skills that has spread in recent years, damaging the entire world of dance”.

To say this on the occasion of a conference which was held at Vittorio Emanuele Theatreas part of World Health Day dancethe three teachers Giovanna Tedesco, Milena Freni and Mariangela Bonanno, respectively president and vice-president of the Dis association (Dance healthy) and president of the Sicilian association of graduate dance teachers (Asild). Conference organized by the Dis association in collaboration with Asild together with the Vittorio Emanuele Theater Authority, and sponsored by the Tourism and Entertainment Department of the Sicily Region and the Municipality of Messina. After the institutional greetings of the authorities present, representing the city of Messina and the Sicily Region, including the extraordinary commissioner Orazio Miloro and the municipal councilor for youth policies Liana Cannata, the central themes of the conference were illustrated by the teachers Giovanna Tedesco, Milena Freni, Mariangela Bonanno who highlighted.

“Today we presented the Dis mark which distinguishes schools that have graduate directors. And we are truly satisfied with the path also started by Aidaf (Italian Association of Dance Training Activities) which, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, is studying a law that should come into force shortly to finally establish standardized and regulated paths for teaching of Dance, a profession that will finally become recognized by the State”.

Adequate training, as the orthopedist Giancarlo Gemelli, the psychologist Annarita Morabito and the professor Chiara Zoppolato, president of the National Dance Academy Foundation, have also explained well, guarantees profitable skills, not only from a theoretical and cultural point of view and technical but also in the psychological and health fields. Furthermore, we are starting to regulate a chaotic sector, where, in recent times, commercial interests have prevailed over the original noble spirit of dance which must above all be a powerful way to express emotions and internal experiences that could be difficult to communicate verbally.

Rossella Brescia’s speech

She also spoke via video link Rossella Brescia which highlighted: “Dance is a vocation, a passion that comes from within, however to be cultivated adequately and at its best, it is necessary to rely on schools run by professionals who have an adequate training course. I attended the National Dance Academy and they were the best years, because they are the ones that adequately prepare you to carry out this profession”.

The words of the former Amici dancer Amilcar Moret Gonzales

Of the same opinion dancer Amilcar Moret Gonzales (ex Amici), who underlined: “Italy is late with legislation for standard training courses, in Europe there have been planned courses for years to become dance teachers. We hope that soon all this will be possible in this country too”.

Journalist Gianluca Rossellini moderated the event. In the evening at 8.00 pm, again at the Vittorio Emanuele Theatre, a dance show dedicated to the prematurely deceased teachers Anna Bonaccorsi and Silvana Lo Giudice will be held with the extraordinary performance of the master and professional Amilcar Moret Gonzales, who will perform two magnificent choreographies .

Sicilian schools directed by Miur graduate teachers will participate in the event, presented by Rachele Gerace. Among these schools Danzarte by Giovanna Tedesco, Centro Formazione Danza by Milena Freni, Studio Danza by Mariangela Bonanno, TMB Lo Giudice by Giorgia Torrisi, Agata Pennisi, ASD Danza e Movimento by Francesca Scacco, Spazio Sesto Senso by Martina Asero, ASDC Masd by Emanuela Curcio, ASD Dance Movement by Patrizia Bellitti.
