CORIGLIANO-ROSSANO (CS) – The third edition of Πatir 2024 begins

The Palazzo delle Culture San Bernardino is the location that hosted the first appointment of this 3rd edition of Πatir 2024. Protagonists of the first event of the program, in collaboration with the ODV Insieme, the Municipal Council of Children and Rossano purpurea Giovani. To coordinate the meeting of reflections entitled “School, territory and quality of life. UNESCO values and models” was Giovanni SodaDirector of the European Policies Sector of the City of Corigliano-Rossano.

«With Πatir we wanted to create a circularity of ideas and an opportunity to meet. Today, as in every laboratory, we are certainly not here to give a solution, a recipe; we are here to start a conversation that aims to involve society on some aspects, which in our opinion are extremely important. The method adopted means that, today, families are present in this open lab, represented by Vittoria Paletta, President Age Sec. Ionian Cosenza, Pina de Martino, president of Uciim section. Mirto Rossano, representative of the world of teachers associations, school managers Matterhorn, Pistoia, Cataldi» he declares Alessandra MazzeiPresident Rossano Purpurea.

«We interpreted the invitation as a recognition of the role that the Council wants to give to young people, a role of promoting democracy and participation as enshrined in the Italian Constitution. Our main mission, in fact, consists in organizing situations to exercise active citizenship by involving all comprehensive schools and primary and lower secondary school students. Occasions like these this morning help us to adopt a “participatory culture” that contributes to strengthening the sense of belonging to the territory by identifying needs and proposing solutions. In recent months we have been carrying out a project called “one hundred steps together” which, in harmony with UNESCO principles and values, has the aim of developing knowledge of our territory. Like UNESCO which protects sites that are world heritage, we want to protect and promote the common goods, the cultural and environmental heritage in which we live. In the UNESCO report, in the edition published in 2021, we read that: Education is the key path to tackling inequalities, promoting the values of peace and cooperation based on what we know. We must transform education. Classrooms and schools are essential but in the future they will need to be built and experienced differently. We too, members of the Children’s Municipal Council, are wondering how to transform education, starting from the classrooms, preparing proposals that we will submit to the Municipal Administration with which we have established a profitable collaborative relationship. From this perspective, the short week, in schools, could be the beginning of a path towards the establishment of a more inclusive and supportive society. The Children’s City Council wants to be an active part in this growth process by actively participating in public and social activities” declares Nigro Alessia PiaPresident of the Municipal Youth Council.

“It is good that the opinions of us kids are also listened to so that the aims of the inclusion of the short week in the various institutes are adequately conveyed to improve the quality of life. In addition to the “one hundred steps” project, the Children’s Municipal Council, together with the parents’ category, began, in its second year of mandate, a project to enhance, understand and publicize the various monuments of our territory. In fact, we have realized that, very often, we tend not to give the right value to the cultural beauties that surround us and that we cherish. For this reason, one of the many proposals of the Municipal Council for Children is that if the short week were introduced in the various institutes, it would be appropriate to dedicate Saturday to educational trips in the area together with our families. Long or short week, what is certain is that you have to study. You have to study for yourself, never for grades, you have to study because culture makes you free and there is nothing more precious than freedom” he added Alexander Whitebaby mayor of the city of Corigliano-Rossano.

She intervened in connection, during the works, Teresa Gualtieri, National President of the Italian Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO; present on April 27, the President presented a study highlighting the importance of active participation by children within UNESCO projects. Finally, it intervenes Rosellina Madeo, Vice President Caro Calabria: «This active citizenship project of the Children’s City Council offers, every time, a new stimulus to those who have the honor of occupying positions that can in some way contribute to and influence the image of our future. My speech, in my capacity as Vice President of the Regional Commission for Equal Opportunities, has changed in perspective over the years because if previously we talked about difficulties in reconciling life and work times for women, now fortunately we are talking about difficulties in reconciling time with families. Hearing kids talk about futures makes us appreciate the involvement of families in this growth process. The objective of quality education requires an open and inclusive school.”

The first day continued in the setting of the Basilian monastic complex of Santa Maria del Patire. During the conference, entitled “Meetings of civilization and spirituality in the Mediterranean”, those present were able to appreciate the discussions of the various guests: Monsignor Franco Militothe professor. Enrico Morini and the architect. Armando Rossi, have argued, in the case studies presented, (respectively: Mediterranean routes of Italian-Greek monasticism. The case of Sant’Elia da Enna known as the Younger, Elia da Enna and Elia da Reggio in the Life of the Speleote: meeting or clash of two monasticisms ?, The church of San Marco in Rossano – Analysis of the monument along an initiatory path) the mutual contamination between civilization and spirituality developed within the scenario of the Mare nostrum. This will be followed by the award ceremony for the “Giorgio Leone – Art and territory” award.
