Messina: dance and the importance of academic qualification

The world of dance is at the center of a debate regarding the qualification of teachers and the regulation of training courses. In the recent conference held at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele, qualified teachers with degrees in Dance Sciences expressed their opposition to short diplomas for managing private dance schools. Rossella Brescia underlined the importance of investing in passion with adequate training, while Amilcar Moret Gonzales highlighted Italy’s delay compared to standard European training paths.

The teachers present at the conference, representatives of the Dis association (Danza in salute) and the Sicilian association of graduate dance teachers (Asild), reiterated the importance of academic training and the regulation of training courses to guarantee adequate skills in teaching dance dance.

The conference, organized by Dis in collaboration with Asild and sponsored by the Tourism and Entertainment Department of the Sicily Region and the Municipality of Messina, highlighted the need for an integrated and functional system for the training of dance teachers.

During the event, the central themes were illustrated, including the establishment of standardized and regulated training paths for teaching dance. We discussed the Dis mark which distinguishes schools with graduate directors and the commitment of the Italian Dance Training Activities Association (Aidaf) in collaborating with the Ministry of Culture to study a law to this effect.

The importance of adequate training was also underlined by experts such as the orthopedist Giancarlo Gemelli and the psychologist Annarita Morabito, highlighting the necessary skills not only from a technical point of view, but also from a psychological and health point of view.
