The safety works of Farroupilha park (better known as Cherubini park) continue between Q4 and Q5 in Latina. For months, the park appeared razed to the ground: empty play areas, rides removed and kiosk bar closed.
At the beginning of April, to break the silence, the words of deputy mayor Carnival in a statement:
“With over 250 thousand euros, the municipal administration has decided to equip the parks of the Municipality of Latina with new games for children. The first works planned in the Oasi Verde Susetta Guerrini Park.
January 2024, Latina loses a park
Last January, the inhabitants of the Q4 and Q5 neighborhoods of Latina found themselves deprived of an important meeting space, especially during the summer period: this is how the Farroupilha park appeared from one day to the next, without warning.
The incident immediately sowed discouragement and resentment among the citizens, especially given the mild temperatures which still allowed children to play inside the park and the elderly to converse pleasantly, drinking a coffee under the canopy.
It is good to remember that this is thethe only meeting place for the inhabitants of the neighborhoodssecond perhaps only to the parish of San Luca.
The situation had remained unchanged for days, masking, in the general neglect, the proliferation of vandalism and incorrect behaviour.
In March our PEC to the Municipality of Latina
March 27th we at Il Caffè decide to write to the section UOC “Quality and urban beauty. Common goods” of the Municipality of Latinaafter attempting an initial telephone contact.
The email does not receive a response.
The turning point came in April
The month of April seems to be a harbinger of news for the Farroupilha park and for the inhabitants of the Q4 and Q5 neighborhoods of Latina. In addition to a significant mowing of the grass in a large part of the Susetta Guerrini Green Oasis, the park also seems to be resurrecting from a mysterious hibernation.
The perimeter of the area is finally cordoned off with construction net, announcing interventions in the field.
A press release unblocks the situation
We need to wait until April 9th to finally have an idea of what to do for the Farroupilha park. A press release dated April 9th clarifies the situation. Below we report the text.
New games in municipal parks: interventions begin
“With over 250 thousand euros, the municipal administration has decided to equip the parks of the Municipality of Latina with new games for children”. These are the words of the deputy mayor and councilor for public works Massimiliano Carnevale, who explains the ongoing interventions.
“The first works – he declares – began yesterday in the Susetta Guerrini Oasi Verde Park and consist of the assembly of the new games, which will replace the damaged and no longer safe ones. In just a few days the little ones will already have a new space at their disposal where they can spend their spring afternoons.
The same will be done in the other green areas of Latina, including those of the schools, where the tools available to the children were no longer usable. These interventions will allow you to take advantage of spaces dedicated to leisure and physical activity, in complete safety.
The administration, in fact, preferred to equip the areas with new tools rather than intervene on those already present, now dated and no longer usable. These interventions, in addition to providing better spaces for the little ones, will allow a redevelopment of the municipal park areas, which also act as meeting centers for families”.
In addition to the Oasi Verde Susetta Guerrini park, the first interventions will concern the school in via Quarto, the Don Milani school, the school in via Calatafimi and the Villafranca park in via Tanaro. Upon completion, expected by May, we will continue with the new areas.
From the same day of the press release, work begins in full swing on the park and continue quickly.
After ten days, on April 19th, the flooring underneath the rides was installed and the poles for the swings appeared, which were completed on Wednesday April 24th. The public fountain also appears to have been restored and the slide matrix installed. It remains to be seen whether the kiosk bar will also be reopened and who will manage it.
One park, many stories
The renovation of Farroupilha Park is an event that gives hope: for the elderly to recover a dignified place for meeting and relationships, for children to meet up on summer afternoons, for all citizens to hope for a light on a complex reality. A spark that will hopefully bring with it the resolution of other issues that have been open for years, such as that of closure of the first pedestrian bridge connecting Q4 and Q5.
So that the two neighborhoods do not remain a rough diamond, but can, together with constant care and attention, offer themselves in their best guise, especially because future object of important projects and investments.
