D’Alberto: «Whoever tries to deny anti-fascism only makes it stronger» – Teramo

TERAMO. There was a political undertone, not just a rigidly institutional one, in the 79th celebrations of April 25th in Teramo. Mayor Gianguido D’Alberto he wanted to give a certain slant to the ceremonies that took place in various places in the city yesterday morning and this was demonstrated above all by his speech, the attack of which reads: «”The Resistance was an extraordinary event. He had created a truly exceptional unit that went from the Badoglian officers to the communist workers.” I believe that the deepest meaning of April 25th, which represented the epilogue of the pluralist and popular struggle for freedom, is contained in the words of Nilde Iotti. Words that today, in a historical moment in which the celebrations for Liberation are increasingly called into question, in which we daily witness attempts, even by institutional representatives, to censor anti-fascism, to forget it, to deny it, remind us indelibly how Liberation is everyone’s heritage. April 25 cannot and must not be a divisive date, but on the contrary it must continue to represent a moment of national unity for our communities, as it was in 1945. Trying to erase anti-fascism paradoxically translates into an even stronger affirmation of him. Because it is precisely the attempts to deny it that confirm to us that today, more than in the recent past, it is essential to reiterate its necessity and value.” Not only that: the mayor wanted to establish a “Citizen Merit for the values of the Resistance” which was delivered by him and the former PCI senator Antonio Franchiprovincial president of the Anpi, a Giuliana Valente, 93 years old in June: partisan relay as a girl, then active in politics in the then PCI (she was part of the central committee at the time of Togliatti secretary), then again the first woman vice president of the regional council between ’75 and ’85. Finally, D’Alberto wanted the theater director Silvio Araclio read the writer’s monologue in front of the monument to the Fallen of the Resistance Antonio Scurati at the center of the recent media case.
The procession of anti-fascist militants from the House of the People, who also waved Palestinian flags, was clearly political in nature, but this is nothing new.
In the province there were ceremonies in various centers. Giulianova was awarded the diplomas in memory of the military command of Abruzzo and of fighters for the freedom of Italy. The soldiers awarded were Jwan Costantini, grandfather of the mayor (he retired his daughter Rossana); the military internship Cesare Stacchiotti (withdrew his very young niece Anita); the artillery corporal major, interned and missing, Luigi Stacchiotti (withdrew his son Aladdin); the infantryman, military internee Pasquale Stacchiotti (withdrew his nephew). The 12th edition of “The freedom that came from the sea” took place in Roseto, an event that recalls episodes of Roseto’s anti-fascism with a bicycle ride in the Borsacchio reserve. Before departure, the institutions united to commemorate the fallen and those who gave their lives for freedom, paying homage to the War Memorial and the trade unionist’s plaque Free Pierantozzi.(red.te)
