Green light to budget forecast for the three-year period 2024/27 of Municipality of Catania. The accounting document was approved by the city Senate with 24 votes in favor and six abstentions. At the same time as the budget forecast, the relevant budget was approved declaration of immediate enforceability. The financial document, as reported by Palazzo degli Elefanti, was approved by the chamber after a long debate, in person and remotely, with the final vote which was preceded by the examination of six amendments, two presented by the Municipal Administration itself which received the green light from the council. Four other amendments proposed by councilors, all with the technical opinion against, were instead rejected by the majority of the council.

The budget forecast was illustrated in the chamber by the finance councilor, present in the chamber with the mayor Enrico Trantino, the deputy mayor Paolo La Greca and other councilors of the municipal council. At the end of the city council’s work, the mayor and the councilor Giuseppe Marletta they released a joint note from the Administration. “The approval of the budget,” they said, “marks a fundamental restart for the life of the Common that he will finally be able to adopt acts of primary importance for the needs of the City. Particular thanks must be addressed to the city council in its entirety, majority and opposition. For the great sense of responsibility shown, despite the strict constraints of accounting documents and the compression of in-depth analysis times”.

“We will, however, be able to immediately activate the levers necessary to first tackle the serious shortage of staff, hiring new resources”, Trantino and Marletta write again. “Starting with 80 municipal police officers, in addition to the one hundred envisaged by the national government and the stabilization of those in fixed-term service; 75 accounting, technical and administrative officials to make up for it, at least partially, to the numerous retirements in recent years which have slowed down administrative action; to the completion of vertical progressions of internal employees who have not been able to make career progress for over twenty years”.

“Obviously it’s a balance which for objective reasons has a primarily technical value, considering the state of financial failure of the organisation“, the Administration specifies. “But with the collection incentives that we are implementing together with the new concessionaire Municipia, it is to be hoped that next year there will be greater additional margins for the councilors’ suggestions. Just as”, they concluded, “we will work to prepare new mechanisms for discussion with the council. In order for this to happen already in the early stages of drafting of accounting documents”.
