SAMBUCA – Since Wednesday he had not given any more news of himself. They found him today at the bottom of a ravine, on the bed of the Poggiolino ditch. The man, 49 years of Pratowas recovered by the Fire Brigade and Alpine Rescue who were unable to do anything but confirm his death.

Firefighters in the area of the accident

The causes that made him fall into the escarpment are still unclear. It is probable, however, that the cause of the misfortune may have been a skid while heavy snow was falling in the area. In fact, his van was found – as some rescuers from the Misericordia of Pistoia tell us – with its wheels partially balanced on the ravine. It is probable that the man, who often frequented the Treppio area, got out of the vehicle to check on the situation. He also left his phone in the car and for some reason (at an hour that will not be easy to establish) he may have fallen down, making a jump of 10-15 meters and most likely dying instantly from the injuries sustained in the fall, between which caused a strong trauma to the forehead.

Today around midday the alarm that set off the rescue efforts in the Treppio area. Firefighters, mountain rescue technicians and the carabinieri intervened. With them a medical vehicle and an ambulance from the Misericordia of Pistoia.

The staff who intervened, after the death was confirmed and the appropriate authorisations, assisted by the 118 medical staff, proceeded with the recovery and transport of the body, entrusting it to the Carabinieri staff present on site. The recovery operations ended at 2pm. (md)
