David Parenzo, host of L’Aria che Tira, speaks to Adnkronos after the controversy sparked by the sit outside the La7 studios of the students of the Cambiare Rotta and Osa organizations, in which the presence of the journalist with the Jewish Brigade at the demonstration for April 25th in Rome: «I didn’t understand what these guys from the collectives accuse me of, I’m not happy to have ended up in the sights of these people, being one not only for freedom of speech, but who in all my broadcasts have always invited all voices to give maximum visibility to all positions, even those furthest from me. I was there like every year, I want to clarify this – explains Parenzo -. I arrived there escorted, because today unfortunately if you don’t have protection you risk it, and I was with the chief rabbi, Professor Riccardo Di Segni, with Victor Fadlun, and the former president of the Jewish community of Rome. I went with them, I was at the wreath-laying of the Jewish Brigade, then I returned home. There was the Jewish community, there were a lot of people, I was there at 8 in the morning, and at 8.50 I was already in the television studios, preparing my broadcast.”

Parenzo then states that he did not notice in detail what was happening in the square: «I didn’t see what was happening, I arrived escorted and I left escorted. I never shouted anything at anyone, nor did I shout any kind of slogan. I did what I do every year.” The journalist then explains his position on the merits: «I condemn every form of violence, every aggression, so I have nothing to fear from this point of view», he continues. “I have no idea what they’re criticizing me for, it’s clear that I ended up in the crosshairs of these antagonists.” The journalist then reveals a private detail: «I went to the demonstrations on April 25th like every year, I have been going there since I was a child with my father, moreover today is his birthday and we have always celebrated April 25th by going to square. For a few years I have been doing it with friends who want to remember the Jewish Brigade.”

«I want to say one thing: the Jewish Brigade has nothing to do with the conflict between Israel and Palestine, it has nothing to do with the war against Hamas – the journalist from ‘La Zanzara’ then adds to the news agency – because the Brigade Jewish is the battalion made up of Jews who, together with the Anglo-Americans, contributed to the liberation of Italy, so it was a very specific group, which did not even have in its symbol the colors of the flag of Israel which came much later, because here we are talking about before the founding of the State of Israel, which famously occurred after the Second World War. So someone has to explain to me what Palestinian flags have to do with April 25th, and in particular with the Jewish nothing brigade: nothing.” «I say: let’s compare ourselves, let’s talk: even in character I am not of a radical culture and I am really for dialogue, always and in any case», Parenzo’s final message.
