“Art and History in Messina in the Late Middle Ages. Swabians, Angevins and Aragonese” was the theme of the conference held today, Friday 26 April, in the auditorium of the Palacultura, sponsored by the Municipality of Messina, and promoted and organized by the Liceo La Farina – Basile, in collaboration with the Accademia Studi Storici Italians from Rome. The councilor for Public Education Pietro Currò took part in the event, attended by city authorities, who intervened to bring the institutional greetings of the mayor Federico Basile, as well as to express his appreciation to the organizers of the educational and cultural event aimed at students. “An important moment of in-depth study that guided the students involved along the historical period experienced by the City of Messina during the three dominations of the Late Middle Ages, Swabian, Angevin and Aragonese, with the aim of offering them learning and immersing themselves in a past era, reliving the aspects linked to the poetics, art and habits of a time that no longer exists, but which contribute to its conservation and diffusion”, commented councilor Currò.

The works, opened by the head teacher Caterina Celesti, were attended as speakers by members of the Accademia Studi Storici, respectively professor Elio Scarfì on “The Swabians in Messina: the Messina people of the Sicilian poetic school; which was followed by a virtual journey curated by professor Alessandro Cucè who guided the students to view some works of art from Messina dating back to the period between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries; Professor Daniele Corrente Naso instead focused on facts and events of the years relating to the Sicilian Vespers during the Angevin domination; the Aragonese period was treated by professor Mirella Zodda; while the president of the same Academy Marco Pozzuoli spoke on the topic “Symbolism in religious-military orders”. Finally, teachers and students of the Basile art school, also at the Palacultura, oversaw the preparation of an exhibition of artistic works.
