Forum del Fare, the final balance of the works

The curtain has fallen on the third “Forum of Doing”, organized by the social promotion association “Gela Brainstorming”, the initiative dedicated to the examination of problems and practical ideas for the development of the city, which took place on Saturday at “Orlando” bookstore.

A real think tank aimed at institutions, entrepreneurs, trade associations and stakeholders which aims to identify immediately applicable solutions. “Territorial products as a vehicle of identity” is the theme chosen this year, to rediscover a sense of belonging that the Gelesi people seem to have lost, given that it emerged during the second edition of the forum, in 2021, from the results of a SWOT analysis.

The people of Gelato seem ashamed of their origins, they impoverish the territory and consequently hinder the evolution of the city. On the contrary, if we aimed at the cultural, social and economic development of the city, we would create the sense of belonging that is missing.

Not only typical products, but also identity symbols. During the forum, the anthropomorphic bull “Ghelos” was put on display, a true work of art created by the artist Francesco Cascino which will remain on display in the bookshop until 3 June. A reinterpretation that evokes identity, belonging and redemption for a territory violated by heavy industrialization.

The Forum was sponsored by the Sicilian Region Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, Regional Province of Caltanissetta, Municipality of Gela, Order of Biologists of Sicily, Order of Food Technologists of Sicily and Sardinia, Conflavoro PMI Sicilia, Triskelion Association, Modavi Association and Elios Association.

The professionals who took part in the event (Paolo Scicolone, Carmela Patania, Rocco Incardona, Cecilia Marchese, Giuseppe La Spina) therefore spoke on the key themes of the forum: the relationship between food and territory, the natural uniqueness of Gela , the knowledge handed down from generation to generation to be safeguarded to preserve human and environmental health, the history of the city between perspective and opportunities and food and wine tourism. Two collaborators of the “Gela Brainstorming” association, Salvo D’Arma and Andrea Giammella, presented a typical Gela menu focused on enhancing the products of the Gela Plain.
