PESCARA – Patience, aesthetic sense, attention to detail, but also a lot of creativity and desire for innovation. These and many other characteristics represent the added value of women who work in the horticultural sector.

There are many entrepreneurs who until Sunday will be the protagonists of the 46th edition of the Florviva Flower Exhibition, currently taking place at the Marina di Pescara tourist port.

Engaged in the stands inside and outside the PalaBecci, among the women of the longest-running sector event in Abruzzo there are those who have followed an ancient family tradition, those who have chosen to approach this profession out of passion and those who, after having undertaken other studies, he chose to return to following the call of the earth.

It is the case of Luisa Di Primio, who after graduating in energy engineering, decided to return to work in the family business, Apice Piante di Ripa Teatina, founded forty years ago, together with her sisters Cecilia and Carla. Not without bringing some elements of innovation especially on the energy transition side.

“We are currently the only nursery in Abruzzo to create plants through micropropagation, therefore making a micro cutting in the laboratory, in a sterile environment, thus generating virus-free and perfectly cloned plants,” he explains. «As far as energy is concerned, our company is autonomous both from an electrical point of view and in biomass heating, done by recycling waste material to which is added material produced by us in the laboratory and then cultivated».

A degree in foreign languages and a second one almost on the way in floral design, too Jessica Crognale, he decided to dedicate himself to the company created 30 years ago by his parents. A small flower shop which, over the years, has grown thanks to his commitment, shared with his brother, giving life to Garden Green House in Castel Frentano.

“We graduated in something completely different but then we came back bringing innovations and more projects to develop”.

For generations, female talent has also been the driving force behind Agoflor in Martinsicuro.

“It all started with my grandmother, in Ascoli Piceno – says the owner Silvia Agostini – Then the arrival in Abruzzo with my father in 1984. The added value of a woman in this sector is certainly the aesthetic side and delicacy: we are more attentive to colors and there are women who even ask for advice on the color of the flowers matches better with the walls of your home. But also a lot of patience. I must admit, however, that especially among young people, there are many plant lovers so even men are starting to really appreciate plants and flowers.”

There are also many women who work for Oasi Vivai Piante di Ripa Teatina, active for 35 years in Italy and abroad.

“Especially in greenhouses, where cuttings are produced and sown, the prevalence is female – he explains Pamela Di Biase, who works in the family business – This is because it involves much more detailed, precise and patient work. In external jobs, however, even if more strength is needed so there are more men, there is still no shortage of women.”

Following in the family footsteps, taking over the business started in 1984 by his parents, too Alexandra And Angelica Candeloroowners of Floricoltura Candeloro in Loreto Aprutino.

“We made this choice both to avoid wasting the heritage resulting from the experience of our parents”, they comment, “and then obviously because we like flowers. As women, we have more initiative and pay more attention to details, from the choice of vase to the care in display, with shapes and color lines”.

The creativity of women is also at the origin of the large chessboard that embellishes the central area of the exhibition, and where children can play with pieces at natural height. «We decided to create this chessboard to present one of our products, sedum, because we believe it has an affinity with life», he explains Annamaria Di Primio, owner for 25 years, with her husband, of the La Felce nursery in Brecciarola. «The game of chess is like the game of life, it changes with every move».

The event, promoted by Arfa, the regional association of Abruzzo horticultural industry, and Assoflora, the Association of Abruzzo horticultural producers, in collaboration with the Chieti Pescara Chamber of Commerce, has free entry and is open to the public from 10am to 8pm.
