PALERMO – Appeal rejected by the Supreme Court. The millionaire fortune of Giovanni Pilo, one of the builders of the sack of Palermo, definitively passes to the State. The confiscation affects Pilo’s wife and son, who has since died.

His name takes you back in time, to the time of the maxi trial, in which Giovanni Pilo was convicted of mafia charges. The provision of the Prevention Measures section of the Palermo court has become final, having accepted the proposal of the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate, of the deputy prosecutor Marzia Sabella and of the deputy Dario Scaletta (in the meantime gone to the CSM).

A villa for Bagarella

Pilo, an honorable man from Resuttana who had moved to live in the province of Rome, began to be talked about in 1976, the year in which he was subjected to special surveillance. Then they emerged his relationships with Calogero D’Annamafioso from Terrasini, with the Gambino family (Pilo married Gambino’s sister in the seventies Giacomo Giuseppe, known as ‘u tignusu, head of the San Lorenzo district and member of the provincial commission of Cosa Nostra), with Francesco Cinaanother San Lorenzo boss, to whom he had given the availability of a villa to house the then fugitive Leoluca Bagarella.

The repentants

It is no coincidence that during the second mafia war of the 1980s Pilo sided with the Corleonesi, who chose some builders to control the wild urbanization. Those were the years of the sack of Palermo. A number of repentants have spoken about his mafia role in Resuttana: Francesco Onorato, Giovanni Brusca, Angelo Siino, Antonino Avitabile, Giuseppe Marchese, Salvatore Cancemi, Calogero Ganci, Giovan Battista Ferrante, Francesco Paolo Anzelmo.

Giovanni Brusca told of a meeting with Totò Riina, by Raffaele Ganci (Pilo’s brother-in-law), and Francesco Madonia. Pilo was presented to him as a “man of honor”.

An asset whose value is estimated at 40 million euros passes to the State. These are seven real estate companies and construction companies based in Rome, two hotel structures (one in Ladispoli and one in Guidonia Montecelio), 145 properties (including a villa in Mondello) and land in Palermo, Terrasini, San Vito Lo Capo , Rome and Dello.
