The inauguration of the four exhibitions designed for the celebrations of the bicentenary of the death (20 August 1823) of Pope Pius VII Chiaramonti from Cesena will be held tomorrow 27 April (11am). The event will be held in the Lignea room of the Malatestiana library in the presence of the bishop of Cesena-Sarsina, mons. Douglas Regattieri, the abbot, Dom Mauro Maccarinelli, and the mayor, Enzo Lattuca. The exhibitions are promoted by the diocese of Cesena-Sarsina, the abbey of Santa Maria del Monte, the Municipality of Cesena and the Malatestiana library. In detail there are four exhibitions. The first, 27 April – 30 June 2024, is dedicated to “The books of the Pope. Pius VII Chiaramonti in the mirror of his library: the treasures of his collection of volumes will be visible, with a journey through refined bindings, precious manuscripts, rare editions to the press and curiosities. The second concerns “The gifts of the Pope: A series of objects, liturgical vestments and artefacts connected to Chiaramonti, donated to him or by him, with a multipurpose memorial journey (27 April – 30 June 2024). The third showcases “The Pope’s vestments”, a selection of liturgical vestments – chasuble, dalmatic or tunic and cope – of refined execution (27 April – 30 June 2024). The fourth exhibition is entitled “The narrated Pope”, it is the exhibition of an important segment of the production of prints with the events of Pius VII prisoner, in a representative range of descriptive scenes of a religious nature, but not only (27 April – 30 June 2024).
