The beautiful beach of Sant’Agnello, nestled between Floor Of Sorrento And Sorrento, is at the center of an alert that has shaken swimmers and sea lovers. L’Arpac Campania announced that the sea water did not pass the rigorous quality tests carried out by experts from the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection. Last Sunday, sampling revealed a “non-compliance” that will require a bathing ban.
The intervention of the municipal administration
The municipal administration was immediately informed to issue a specific ordinance which will prohibit bathing on the Sant’Agnello beach. The objective is to guarantee the safety of swimmers and preserve public health in the face of potential risks related to water quality.
The situation is critical elsewhere too
The critical situation does not only concern Sant’Agnello. An excess of the pollution limits was also found at the Purgatory overflow study point in Meta di Sorrento. Other beaches affected are those of Capaccio (Merola village) ed Eboli (north of the Sele mouth). The mayors of these localities have been informed to take similar measures.
Good news for other beaches
Despite the critical issues, overall the beaches of Campania maintain excellent quality water. Furthermore, for the first time, the sea water of Pietrarsa in the municipality of Naples has become swimmable again thanks to the restoration work carried out.
Chapter 5: The evaluation methodology
The data on water quality were made public on the Arpac website and are based on checks carried out over the last four bathing seasons. The judgment of suitability is derived from the statistical analysis of the last four years of monitoring, considering two bacteriological parameters: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci.
This emergency highlights the importance of environmental protection and surveillance of water quality, so that everyone can safely enjoy the wonders of Campania’s beaches.
