The average taxable income in Umbria it stands at 21,660 euros, as reported in the recent report of the Ministry of Economy and Finance on tax returns presented in 2023, and therefore referring to 2022. This places Umbria as the second region in Central Italy with the lowest average income, behind Abruzzo, where the average income is 20,390 euros. Our region distances itself from regions that show better performance in terms of income. Regions such as Lazio, Tuscany and Marche boast incomes ranging from 22,000 to 25,000 euros. However, at the top of the ranking is Lombardy, with an average income of 27,890 euros, while the lowest income is recorded in Calabria, with 17,160 euros.

Analyzing in more detail the Umbrian municipalities, it emerges (from the Il Sole 24 Ore website) that Perugia is the municipality with the highest average income, equal to 23,816 euros (+3.74% on 2021). Corciano follows, with 23,403 euros (+3.82%), and San Gemini, with 22,949 euros (+4.44%). Terni, the second provincial capital, records an average income of 21,845 euros (+2.78%). The municipality with the lowest average income is Monteleone di Spoleto, where people earn just over 14,431 euros per year (+14.02%). The most significant percentage change (+22.8%) from one year to the next was recorded in Lisciano Niccone where the average income went from 16,918 euros in 2021 to 20,775 euros in 2022.

The report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance highlights that the overall national income increased by 6.3% compared to the previous year, reaching approximately 970.2 billion euros, with an average income of 23,650 euros (+4.9% compared to 2021). Furthermore, 23% of employees in Italy benefit from supplementary benefits, with Umbria hovering around the national average, while Calabria and Sicily record higher incidences, 32% and 31% respectively.
Regarding the analyzes of VAT returns, Umbria shows an increase in turnover of 17.2% compared to the previous year. The regions with the most significant increases are Lazio (+58.3%), Molise (+34.4%) and Trentino-Alto Adige (+24%), while Abruzzo records smaller increases, equal to 7%. ,7%.
