FANO – “Safe shop” operation of the Fano police station, directed by Stefano Seretti, which on Wednesday 24 April carried out a targeted control activity in the area aimed at preventing thefts in Fano’s commercial establishments. Through the monitoring and analysis of the city’s video surveillance system, in collaboration with the Local Police, a suspicious car, an Audi A5, was noticed wandering between Via Roma and Adriatica Sud, in particular in some bars. The car, followed by the police, then stopped at the “Va Tranquil” bar in Viale Piceno where the gang had decided to act. Three Romanians, aged between 35 and 45, entered the business by going towards the slot machines. Thanks to the little fish technique, that is, using a circle-shaped object and a metal cable inserted into the coin slot, in 20 minutes they managed to obtain 800 euros. In fact, thanks to this handcrafted tool, they could play continuously by paying only the first time. As soon as they left the premises, however, they were blocked by police officers who found them in possession of 800 euros in cash, just withdrawn from the change machine, and the instrument used for the robbery. A similar object was later found inside the car.
Today the judge validated the arrests for aggravated theft. The gang leader, already known for dozens of thefts of this kind throughout Italy, including the islands, was subject to the precautionary measure of having to reside in the Lombardy Region. For all three the trial was postponed to May 20th.
The investigations revealed that the two accomplices stayed in some hotels (the last time in Rimini) from where they left to select the bars in which to carry out the theft. One man acted as a lookout inside the club, the second looked after the entrance to the slot room, while the third, the gang leader, operated the machines. In one day they managed to steal from 3-4 businesses, for a total of around 3 thousand euros. But in the city of Fortuna the police caught them at the first shot.
