STEM EDUCATION: CONFINDUSTRIA L’AQUILA AND COMENIO DI SCOPPITO AT THE NATIONAL “EUREKA!” COMPETITION | Current news

L’AQUILA – Stimulate children’s interest in technical and scientific culture, the so-called Stem disciplines, testing their creativity, manual skills and aptitude for teamwork.

The twelfth edition of the “Eureka!” competition, organized by Unindustria and promoted by Federmeccanica at a national level, with the collaboration and participation of Confindustria, ended on April 22nd at the Explora, the Children’s Museum in Rome. Aquila Abruzzo Interno, which supported the Comenio school institute of Scoppito in the competition.

270 students from 30 primary and secondary schools in Lazio and Abruzzo took part in the initiative, challenging themselves to design toys capable of moving through the use of mechanical systems.

“The experience of the Eureka! it had a training impact of considerable importance for all our students and teachers”, he declares Luana Sarra, coordinator of the Comenio Institute project, “in particular, allowed the students to learn the value of error and its acceptance as an integral part of the learning process, allowing them to build confidence in their own possibilities and in those of the group with with which we collaborate. The students have never lost the desire to get involved, constantly demonstrating responsibility, creativity and desire to experiment.”

“I thank Confindustria L’Aquila – Abruzzo Interno”, continues Sarra, “for the support, professionalism and availability demonstrated during the project, personally encouraging our young inventors one by one”.

“Participation in the project was strongly desired by Confindustria L’Aquila and the Comenio Institute, as it provided the possibility of experimenting with a real interdisciplinary approach and the opportunity to promote STEM education in general in our territory, as well as the added value that our manufacturing companies generate in the community,” he underlined Giuseppina Saccomandi, training representative of Confindustria L’Aquila, “having supported and accompanied the Comenio Institute in the project, as the only Abruzzo school that participated in the competition, filled us with pride. Our objective is to make the participation of our territory even more active and strong in these synergistic initiatives between the world of education at every level and the world of industry”.
