Hit by a knife thrown from the stands: fear for a former Cagliari footballer

Near tragedy during a Colombian Serie A match between Independiente Medellin and Atletico Nationalthe scene of a disconcerting event which had as its unfortunate protagonist an old acquaintance of Cagliari Soccer: Pablo Ceppelini, who wore the rossoblù shirt between 2011-2013 and is now playing for Atletico.

The midfielder – who certainly didn’t leave his mark in Sardinia, making only 9 appearances – was hit in the 92nd minute, therefore in full recovery, by a switchblade, thrown from the stands occupied by Independiente fans.

The match – which was 2-2 and ended like this – was immediately stopped, to allow assistance to the player.

For Ceppelini, treated on the pitch by Atletico’s medical staff, there were no serious consequences, just a lot of fear and dismay for a an episode that could have had much more serious consequences.

The Colombian authorities are now trying to identify the perpetrator of the insane and very dangerous act.
