«The minus sign has arrived, this is a wake-up call»

TREVISO – Treviso exports slow down. In 2023 there was a 1.4% drop compared to 2022, certifying exports at 15 billion 668 million euros. Treviso did worse than the Veneto average, which saw a reduction in exports of 0.7%. The post-Brexit European Union markets are having a negative impact above all, where the “made in Treviso” fell by 1.5%, with 9 billion 839 million exported turnover, a worse performance than the Veneto average, which saw a marginal increase of 0.1%. Just better in the rest of the world, where the change compared to 2022 was minus 1.2%, with 6 billion 129 million euros, still better than the Veneto average, at minus 1.7%. “In the end, the minus sign has arrived – comments Oscar Bernardi, president of Confartigianato Imprese Marca Trevigiana -. A widely expected fact and that it is a wake-up call. However, we are comforted by the fact that exports of sectors with a high concentration of MPI, which represent 42.2% of manufacturing exports “made in Veneto”, fared better, with a variation of +0.2%. This confirms the value of value chains, for which our artisan businesses are an irreplaceable and decisive pillar.”

The data

Analyzing the data processed by the Confartigianato study center on the export of the sectors with the highest concentration of MPI, it emerges that the food sector is driving exportswith an increase of 8.2% compared to 2022 and the products of manufacturing companies, with an increase of 4.4%. The two sectors alone are worth 41.6% of the total MPIs. With the clothing items are also a plus sign, which represent 51.8% of the MPIs in that sector and which exported 1.1% more. A real boom was recorded in the printing and reproduction of recorded media sector, with a positive leap of 34.7%, but on a modest market share. In the wood is deep redThe straw and woven articleswhich saw exports contract by 9.5%, followed by textile products (-6.1%), leather items (- 5.8%), furniture (- 5.7%) ei metal products (-1.7%). «Looking in perspective, the Balkan peninsula is an area of particular economic interest for MPIs – underlines Oscar Bernardi -. Croatia’s entry into the Schengen area and the euro is positive news, which counterbalances concerns about strong political-military tension between Kosovo and Serbia. Confartigianato will collaborate with the Government and the Veneto Region so that the path to the Balkans opens up even further. The granting of EU candidate country status to Bosnia and Herzegovina in December was a concrete signal in support of its European perspective. How important it would be for Serbia, a key country for the stability of the area, to also get closer. Given these positive prospects, we cannot hide the concern for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict which it destabilizes an area to which our companies are particularly exposed».
