TRIESTE. «There are risks due to interference of the cable car with the railway line. And other risks determined by critical geological points along the route.” This was reported by the No Ovovia Committee, which has long been fighting against the construction of the cable car system between the city and the plateau, and which today, Friday 26 April, announced that it had sent a letter to this effect to RFI , Italian Railway Network, and to Ansfisa, National Railway Safety Agency. The letter asks what role the two bodies played in the project evaluation process.

“These are very important issues – underlined the committee – which are not addressed by the final project”. Among those who spoke, Livio Stefani, a retired engineer and collaborator of the No Ovovia group, focused particular attention on the problems relating to possible rescue interventions for people inside the cabins, in case of emergency, which would be difficult due to the interference of the cableway with areas of the railway. But the project – he added – could also jeopardize the continuity of overall rail transport

Trieste, both passengers and goods. In some places the cabins are only a few meters from the tracks, if something were to happen we don’t know what procedures would be possible”. Therefore, according to the Committee, problems could arise if rescue interventions were necessary. The Committee, in today’s conference, also spoke about the study by geologist Roberto Mandler, which speaks of the geological incompatibility of the land near the Victory Lighthouse, where the installation of a pylon is planned, apparently above a railway tunnel. The Committee asks for clarity from RFI and Ansfisa on any risks of the work, asking if they have already been involved in some way in the evaluation phase of the project. At the moment, citizens have not yet received a response to the letter.
