The coach of Banco di Sardegna Nenad Markovic held the usual press conference in the club’s Club House to present Scafati’s away match on the 29th day of the championship. Not all is lost, in terms of participation in the playoffs, the road is certainly not easy.
Waiting for reaction. “It was certainly an interesting week of work, more or less normal, after the terrible match against Varese it will be nice to see if there is a reaction from the players”
Playoffs still mathematically possible, reasons? “Good question. Player motivation? We knew that we had a chance to go to the playoffs even after Pesaro and even after Naples but I can’t describe everyone’s motivations, we watched Varese play, it seemed like no one had goals”
Play your best on the pitch. “It’s easy to say it in words, if we have motivation, we have to demonstrate it on the pitch, we have to prepare, everyone has objectives, everyone plays at their best, if you don’t arrive mentally ready to play the match you can’t win against anyone. If we look at our matches against Bologna and Brescia and look at the difference in intensity with those of Pesaro and Varese everything changes, we look like a different team.”
More disappointed or angry? “I am very angry and very disappointed, I have spoken a lot with the players, it is no longer the time to talk, we are not children, we are adults and professionals paid to play, we talk about having a reaction of pride but it is too late now, two months ago we didn’t imagine we could even fight for 5th – 6th place and instead we threw everything away with our own hands.”
Defensive passivity. “We always prepare starting from the defense, and when you prepare the defense for a week on Varese and get 112 points you don’t know what to think. Especially when you play away it should be the even more important part, defensive transition, aggression, being mean, tough and tough. Scafati has talent and players who can score a lot.”
3-point shooting percentages plummeted. “The player cannot have confidence in shooting if he doesn’t defend, if he doesn’t fight, if he isn’t concentrated. You come before training and shoot two hundred times, train and build your mentality. I’m not pointing the finger at one player in particular, it’s a general situation that left me really disappointed.”
