Reggio, the Soroptimist Club alongside the girls in tandem

Yesterday, 25 April, the initiative “started from Reggio Calabria and arrived in Milan on 4 June”.Italy in tandem… blindly”, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Italypart of the national “Women and Sport” project, which sees the young blind girl as the protagonist Giusi Parisitogether with friends and travel companions who will take turns driving his tandem.

The Soroptimist Clubs operating in the territories where the tour takes place were invited by National President Adriana Macchi to collaborate, supporting the cyclists in the different stages through hospitality, accompanying them and organizing meetings, or even collaborating with the other subjects involved.

The Soroptimist Club Reggio Calabria also supported Ragazze in-tandem to affirm the concepts of gender equality in sport and inclusion.

On 24 April 2024, at 5.00 pm at the Lido station in Reggio Calabria, the President Natalina Galizia of the Soroptimist International Club Reggio Calabria and the partner Patrizia Balestrieri welcomed Giusi Parisi of “Ragazze in tandem” and his traveling companion Gianfranco Mazzucato accompany them to the B&B Best Season, guests of the Club. At the time of arrival, representatives of the Aspromonte National Park Authority, the Blind Union, the ANPVI and the CIP-National Paralympic Committee were also present , of the CAI and of Legambiente.

In the evening, during the convivial event at ATTIMO Bistrot, Giusy recounted her experience and presented her project, sponsored by FIAB Italia, which aims to raise awareness of the combination of sport and inclusion, making people understand how the tandem can be an inclusive means of sharing, well-being and experiential for all, helping to break down all those physical (inaccessible infrastructures) and mental (disability stereotypes) barriers present in our society and finally creating synergies between associations, bodies and institutions that deal with social inclusion and sustainable tourism.

This morning at Piazza Indipendenza – Lungomare Falcomatà, Giusy and Gianfranco, who will be his co-pilot until Sapri, resumed the Giro d’Italia “blindly” in its second part in conjunction with the 42nd CORRIREGGIO edition, for the first stage Reggio Calabria -Gambarie. To show their support for such a demanding test, the President of the Club and the women were present at the moment of departure partners Patrizia Balestrieri and Milena Vecchi.
