From 23 to 30 September 2024, the city of Latina will transform into the beating heart of European sport, hosting the European Sports Village. This decision is the result of coordinated action between the Pontine municipalities, including Sabaudia, Terracina, Fondi, Maenza, Priveno, Pontinia, San Felice, and Formia. Together with Latina, these municipalities have obtained the title of European Community of Sport 2024, identified as Comunità Pontina dello Sport.
A Valuable Recognition
The title was awarded by Aces (Association for the European Capitals of Sports), a non-profit organization based in Brussels which, since 2001, has promoted sport within the European Union, with particular attention to children, elderly and disabled people.
Statements from the Mayor
“The European Sports Village will be set up in the historic center of Latina, inside the pedestrian area and will be open to all sports organizations from the municipalities belonging to the Pontine Community and the entire province” declared Matilde Celentano, Mayor of Latina. “As mayor of the capital, I am very proud to be able to host an event of this scale, which will see the participation of thousands of people from different centers to promote sport in all its forms”.
Contribution of Other Municipalities and Preparations:
The Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Latina, Andrea Chiarato, highlighted the contribution of the other municipal administrations and underlined that, after the success of last year’s European Sports Week, Latina is ready to surpass itself with this important inter-municipal event international. “We are already working to organize this initiative in the best possible way,” added Chiarato.
Gala event and awards
On April 29th in Rome, in the Coni hall of honor, the European City of Sport Gala will be held for the presentation of the Aces awards. “It will be an important occasion and we will not miss it,” confirmed Chiarato.
