Sandra Mazzoli’s lectio magistralis on Tuesday 30 April

Tuesday 30 April at ‘Capital Encounters’ the appointment is with the science: Sandra Mazzoli, microbiologist and virologist, will be a guest in Pesaro with a lectio magistralis on the theme ‘Microbiomes and microbiota in human evolution’ (Alusfera in Piazza del Popolo, 6.30 pm).

The author will tell us about presence of microorganisms and changes in microbial ecology over the course of human evolution as well as the factors that influenced it, explaining how microorganisms have actually interacted with man since the dawn of history. There are many ideas for further study: from the concept of microbiome to that of microbiota, to the evolutionary theory of the holobiont. And again, among the topics, the studies of the microbiota, especially intestinal, which have allowed us, thanks to the birth of a new science, paleomicrobiology, and the application of the most current molecular biology techniques, to define characteristics and microorganisms that have colonized or infected man from antiquity to the Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth century and to the present day.

The ‘Capital Encounters’ will continue Friday 3 May with Gianrico Carofiglio, one of the most beloved Italian writers, author of best sellers translated all over the world. Carofiglio will present his latest book ‘The horizon of the night’ (Einaudi) in dialogue with Giulia Ciarapica, writer and literary critic (Teatro Sperimentale – 6.30pm).

The event is promoted by Pesaro Italian Capital of Culture and created with the collaboration of Passaggi Cultura. Complete program and updates on Pesaro2024.it
