Rimini, the story of the dog Eddy, from the fight against illnesses to the happiness of a new home

The dog Eddy, the candid puppy who had become somewhat of a mascot of the municipal shelter, has finally found a family who has adopted him. After a long fight against adverse health conditions, this mixed breed is ready for a new chapter in his life, on a ‘move’ from San Salvatore which sees him surrounded by the affection of the new owners and the emotion of the team of the structure of the Stefano Cerni who in recent months has accompanied him with care and dedication towards what can in all respects be called ‘rebirth’.

His story, in fact, is that of a four-legged dog who showed extraordinary resilience. Adopted as a puppy and then abandoned once he grew up, Eddy arrived at the shelter when he was just one year old. Exuberant, playful and full of life, his life took an unexpected turn when some suspicious signs began to appear on his face, indicating that something was wrong, beyond an unusual sudden tiredness.

A neoformation that quickly spread to other areas of the body and which led veterinarians to conduct a series of in-depth tests to understand the cause. However, the diagnosis was a hard blow: two rare autoimmune diseases, a unique combination in Italy. From that day on, Eddy’s battle was long and tiring, with over two months of hospitalization at the San Marco veterinary clinic in Padua, and various therapies to follow. A fundraiser and some initiatives aimed at intercepting resources to finance the treatment process were also started in his name, also in light of the substantial costs.

Although he still bears the signs of the pathology, with a hollow above his left eye, now, at two years old, he is full of energy again, and ready for this adventure in his new home, surrounded by the company of other four-legged friends with whom he has already made friends.

“The official adoption of Eddy is good news for the entire community of Rimini, and for the many, many, who in these months of hospitality at the kennel have had the opportunity to get to know him and support him – they say from the Stefano Cerni Kennel (managed by Cento Fiori cooperative) -. His story is emblematic of the importance of community involvement around the protection of our furry friends, demonstrating the power of solidarity, which in his case was fundamental. Seeing him today in his new family is a very strong emotion for us, as well as for the owners themselves, who are very happy to have opened their doors to him, where other dogs already live.”
