The technicians of the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue intervened in the area Lace Dogabove Trabia (Palermo), to rescue a group of hikers who had been stuck in an inaccessible area.
The group, made up of six young people, three males and three females between 22 and 25 years old, of Ficarazzi (except for a girl from Santa Flavia), during a trip to the mountains she left the path near the Casina Artale by mistakenly taking a firebreak and lost her bearings ending up in an area where the vegetation was particularly thick and full of brambles, as well which is fenced with netting and barbed wire.
Panicked and fearing the onset of darkness, from a point with telephone coverage they managed to contact the single emergency number 112 which alerted the 118 center which, in turn, requested the intervention of the Alpine Rescue as it involved intervention in impervious environments. Two teams of Palermo Alpine Rescue technicians were sent to the site who reached the group on foot, took them out of the impervious area also with the help of a rope and escorted them to the path to return safely to the asphalt road where, waiting for them, there was a 118 ambulance. None of them had suffered injuries but the medical staff, to be safe, subjected them to a check-up.
In the event of accidents on rock walls, paths, mountain environments, snow-covered environments, cliffs, in caves and river gorges or in the case of people missing in a mountainous, impervious and hostile environment, to alert the Alpine Rescue it is necessary to call the Single Number of Emergency (NUE) 112, specifying that a medical rescue intervention is required in a mountainous or impervious environment. The NUE112 operator, applying the specific “Operating procedure for mountainous and impervious environments”, will transfer the emergency call to the 118 Operations Centre, which will alert the Alpine and Speleological Rescue (CNSAS).
