PADUA – The process has taken another step forward. Decisive for the realization of the project, given that the precedent relating to resources had already been carried out in recent days, with the finding by the mayor Sergio Giordani of the 100 thousand euros needed.

In fact, the Councilor for Culture will arrive on Tuesday Andrea Colasio announced that the sector manager Federica Franzoso will soon publish the call for applications to identify the woman to whom the statue will be dedicated, to be placed on a site that will soon be defined. Public communication is expected within a couple of weeks and at that point both associations and individual citizens will be able to present female names, supported by a biographical note and of merit not exceeding 5 thousand characters. The requests must be sent to the Toponymy Commission, to the email [email protected] within about sixty days.
Once this initial phase is closed, the Commission, in one or more sessions depending on how many names have been received, will begin the screening, with the aim of selecting five. Subsequently, a second sharing and participation procedure will be launched, aimed at all people residing in Padua.

THE DETAILS
With the sum made available by the mayor it will be possible to fully outline the feasibility project which must have low costs to remain within the allocated budget and therefore, once the candidacy has been established, the Commission will make a further evaluation on the sketches which will have to respond to certain characteristics regarding the size and location chosen: therefore, competing artists must also comply with the indications contained in an ad hoc notice. The statue commission established for this purpose will make the final decision on the work desired by the citizens.
Among the candidates in the running initially there will certainly be Elena Cornaro Piscopia, the first Bo graduate; Senator Lina Merlin, promoter of the law of the same name to abolish the regulation of prostitution; Fina Buzzaccarini, commissioner of the frescoes in the Baptistery of the Cathedral painted by Giusto de Menabuoi; Lucrezia Dondi dell’Orologio, murdered by a man she had rejected and to whom a funeral monument is dedicated in Palazzo della Ragione; Gaspara Stampa, poet; Antonia Masaniello, the only woman (disguised as a man) to be part of Giuseppe Garibaldi’s expedition of the Thousand; Milla Baldo Ceolin, physics scholar, and Gigliola Valandro, philosopher and parliamentarian.

THE REFLECTION
«The last word will be of the people of Padua – underlined Colasio – who will be “sovereign” in decreeing that female personality to whom the first statue related to this participatory path will be dedicated, designed precisely in the name of the widest possible sharing, both as regards the selection of the woman to whom the work will be named, and also as regards the choice of the artist who will perform it. Our city has had some great female personalities from the fourteenth century onwards, but they have never had adequate recognition in public space. This is a serious fact in the context of cultural policies and therefore it is my intention to proceed in the coming years with the identification of personalities to whom to dedicate important works of contemporary art in the urban context”.
