And in the end everything was accomplished. Inter are Italian champions for the twentieth time, they attach their second historic star to their shirt and do so at Milan’s home ground by winning their sixth derby in a row. A pretty big KO for the Rossoneri who, from what we saw on the pitch, in the end didn’t hide their disappointment much between pushes, punches and music turned up to a level that not even the rave parties in the mountains could match.
The blow hurt, it was felt strong and the boxer, after staggering, fell near his corner. Inter enjoy a state of ecstasy: it has been an unattainable season, a solitary ride from February onwards with an advantage now of +17 over second and +22 over third. Crazy! The dream of us Inter fans has come true. Inzaghi and the team made history. There had been talk of the possibility of winning the scudetto in the derby for more than a month but the possibility of it actually happening was still minimal. Instead, in a season like this, even the impossible becomes possible and, despite the skepticism of many, Inter writes history with numbers and poems to pass down to posterity. We could tell our children and/or grandchildren that we experienced the historic second Nerazzurri star and we will be able to say that we won it at AC Milan under a rain that was as heavy as it was romantic during an evening at the end of April that was more like a night in November. Inzaghi made the black and blue people dream and the team made all the fans fall in love with them as they went to the Duomo late at night to sing together with the boys who were new champions of Italy, braving the cold and the frost. The people of Inter love this team, this group of golden boys. But let’s be clear, the fans didn’t warm to the guys this year because they won. The love that binds people to the team starts from afar, from the scudetto lost two years ago and from the applause that San Siro continuously dedicated to the players after the victory against Samp was useless for the chase against Milan. It started from there and continued to Istanbul. Lautaro was crying and the public consoled him while he thanked the team for the emotions that he continued to give them. This is a group that creates empathy, it’s a locker room made up of guys who love each other and support each other at all times. Do you know when they say in the movies that every player must also run for his partner? You know Al Pacino in “Any Given Sunday”? Here we are faced with that. We are faced with the sensations that the boys give on the pitch. The players are guys who love each other, who love the shirt they wear and the fans who cheer them on, in victory and in defeat.
