The local public transport strike has been confirmed at a national level and will also affect Milan today, Friday 26 April. ATM workers joined the agitation called by Confail Faisa. Metro, buses and trams at risk. The strike lasts four hours and public transport in Milan could be affected between 8.45 and 12.45.

The strike coincides with the weekend of April 25th. Although many will not go to work this Friday, there are many tourists in the city who could feel the consequences of the unrest.

The reasons for the strike

The strike was proclaimed due to “strong concerns linked to the removal from the profession of line driver; disaffection from the ‘world’ of transport; significant repercussions on the future economic stability of local public transport companies (TPL); Collective agreement national category of work that is increasingly disadvantageous for workers and for safety at work”, we read in a note.

“A cry of protest” according to the national secretariat of the union “against the injustices that afflict the workers and their dignity. The main reasons that pushed us to proclaim the strike are linked to the low and inadequate salaries compared to the hard work we do every We demand fair and dignified pay for all workers.” Then, the note on safety at work as a priority: “They must guarantee safe and adequate working conditions for everyone. National collective agreements signed by trade union organizations which should protect workers’ rights, but we see collective bargaining agreements signed which do not respect our needs. We want contracts that protect and enhance us.”

Another point is the excessive “increasingly long” working hours and workloads which put a strain on our health and our family life. We ask for a fair balance between work and private life”, they underline. As well as “starvation entry parameters, unacceptable, so much so as to leave new hires in conditions of economic precariousness. We must – they ask – guarantee opportunities for everyone”.

To conclude, Confail Faisa speaks of “psychological terrorism of companies that impose rules without democratically involving all social partners. The ‘I’m in charge’ and the psychological terrorism against workers must end. It’s time to act”.
