«April 25 makes sense if this becomes a clear commitment for the future. The right in this country won because we disregarded the conditions of our Constitution. We have made a distinction between social class, gender, religious affiliation, geographical origins and the result is those social disparities that we have before everyone’s eyes.” This is a small excerpt from the speech by deputy mayor Chiara Bellini yesterday, in a packed Piazza Cavour, for the 79th anniversary of the liberation from Nazi occupation and fascism. Despite the cold and light rain, the final part of the speech warmed those present: «Starting from this April 25th, we must do everything possible to guarantee all the opportunities we can activate to level the social imbalance that has killed this country. And activate international policies capable of building lasting peace. Because we don’t claim to change the world, we have the duty to change the world. Long live the Resistance. Long live freedom.” This is how the deputy mayor concluded her speech, with her left arm raised and her fist clenched. A gesture that did not go unnoticed and sparked the indignation of the municipal councilor Carlo Rufo Spina (FdI): «I thought I was taking part in a national holiday, but instead it turned out to be a squalid political party rally against the government and its policies, concluding everything with a shameful communist clenched fist – he said in a note – I await his apologies or, otherwise, his immediate resignation” (…)
