On June 8 and 9, Bari voters will have to navigate between more than a dozen lists spread between the two centre-left candidates for mayor Michele Laforgia And Vito Lecceseand just under a dozen lists of the centre-right candidate Fabio Romito. This is the outcome of the latest monitoring between the political secretariats of parties and movements, with just under two weeks left before the dates scheduled for the presentation of the lists themselves.

More lists for Leccese

The longest streak of lists, at least 8, will probably be the one in support of Leccese. In his field, the now safe ones are the lists of the Democratic Party and the Greens, Progetto Bari and a civic list with the name of the mayoral candidate, plus two civic lists that would refer to the outgoing mayor, Antonio Decaro, and also Noi Popolari and Puglia Favorevole , also attributable to Decaro. The doubt about the number of lists that this centre-left front will present remains in the balance because the Social Democrats and Action, Carlo Calenda’s party, have not yet resolved the doubt. In the Democratic Party, all seven councilors and the two outgoing councilors have been confirmed, while among the 36 candidates for the municipal council there will also be Lorenzo Leonetti, current president of Municipality I, Giuseppe Fumai, deputy provincial secretary of the party, the CGIL trade unionist Antonio Bozzo and the councilor outgoing Municipality 2 Giovanna Salemmi. In short, in the Dems, finishing touches not only for the list of candidates for the city council but also for the definition of the five lists with the 74 candidates for the city municipalities. Everything will have to be examined by the provincial guarantee commission and then ratified by the city management. On the other front of the centre-left, the one that supports Michele Laforgia’s candidacy for mayor, at least one doubt was resolved with the confirmation the day before yesterday, by the Italian Left, of its support for the criminal lawyer from Bari, a candidacy launched by Nichi Vendola last autumn. The number of lists that will support Laforgia is still unclear, but the grouping identified with the Convention should guarantee several, perhaps 5, to which we must add that of the 5 Star Movement.

Moving on to the centre-right camp, Fabio Romito should be able to count on at least seven-eight lists, as he himself also confirmed in television debates. Some are those of Fratelli d’Italia, Forza Italia, Udc, Noi Moderati and Nuovo Psi-Liberali e Riformisti, to which three civic lists should be added, one of which was drawn up by Romito himself and, it seems, another built by Fratelli d ‘Italy. As for the names of the candidates, Fratelli d’Italia may not have a leader, preferring to present them in alphabetical order, and there will not be the historical councilor (six terms), the current senator Filippo Melchiorre. Forza Italia has practically closed the list of its candidates for the city council, while during the week – barring short delays – the lists for the five city municipalities will also be defined; many candidates will be having their first political experience, with an average age of around 45. The outgoing city councilor Francesco Fragola, who took over in recent weeks following the legal events in Bari, should join the list of “blues”. The UDC, which has two outgoing councilors, Giuseppe Neviera and Giuseppe Di Giorgio, has closed the list of candidates for the Bari city council, while it has almost completed those for the five city municipalities. The candidacies for the presidency of the five city municipalities are being agreed with the other partners of the centre-right coalition.
