CHIETI. «I am happy that after months of debate the Democratic Party also recognizes the wound that the doubling of the Pescara-Rome railway brings to the territories». He declares it Daniela Torto, deputy of the 5 Star Movement. «It is never too late to understand how the sustainability of a great work is a priority over the usefulness of the work itself. It is clear that my contribution to the committees and to all those citizens who have sought me out in recent months remains solid and unchanged. For me, taking the side of those who have to host the work was an immediate step and remains so, on the other hand representing the voice of the territories is the first task of good politics”. Then, Torto recalls: «From the beginning of this journey it was clear that the doubling project was not the result of consultation with local inhabitants and administrators. And it is no coincidence that in the only municipality where the M5S is in the council, that of Chieti, there was the greatest opposition and strong positions taken. I register that today a part of the opposition in the regional council has joined in this battle, in which until some time ago I was the only political voice. Better late than never. I want to reiterate my thoughts: the lot involving Chieti Scalo and Pescara could upset the structure and balance of a territory both on a socio-economic and liveability level.”
For the Theatine municipal councilor Luca Amicone «It is important in the route not to paralyze the Chieti Scalo area, not only as regards the buildings to be demolished and the properties to be occupied, but also for what concerns the impact assessments that the construction sites would have on the city’s roads . This is why I believe that the formal and informal concertation phase must have all the possible spaces and the right times”.
